Time To Prepare Your Home For The Holidays

Print Friendly and PDF

I felt it as I left my home this morning, there was an unfamiliar coolness in the air.  I love this time of year, cooler days with the much anticipated holiday season.

With October just a few days away what a perfect time it is to begin preparations to celebrate the holiday season with family and friends.  It's a great time to add a little update to your home with little "do it yourself" projects.  It doesn't take much work to put a sparkle in your home, it can happen in a weekend or less and for not a lot of money.  Your holiday guests will enjoy your home's updated style and coziness, giving you more time to enjoy the holiday season.

The Kitchen

Durning the holiday with gatherings in you home, family and friends spend much of their time in and around the kitchen.  You can easily help your guests feel more comfortable with a couple of updates that will improve the ambiance in the kitchen.

A fresh coat of paint is always a good place to start.  Since the kitchen has limited wall space try a bold color that will be inviting but not overwhelming.

Next, update the backsplash with a beautiful and modern peel and stick wall tile.

Brighten up the kitchen with new lighting.  Change out recessed can lights into pendants.  Conversion kits can easily transform your kitchen lights in minutes.  Glass pendants come in a variety of styles and colors.  During this holiday season, change the pendant glass for a holiday hue to add a festive atmosphere.

The Living Room

Guests will naturally gather in the living spaces, so updating these rooms is a must.  Focus on the basics such as lighting and simple décor updates to make a huge difference in this space and with little impact to your budget.  Pay attention to the details. Install plush curtains and add a mirror above a focal point in the room, such as a mantel or sofa.  Adding a large decorative area rug will add comfort and style to the space with little costs and without taking valuable time.

Finish with the guest room and bath

Add a little extra TLC to guest rooms and baths, especially when hosting overnight visitors. Simple touches, such as adding a mirror or bedside table lamp, will give your holiday guests a sense of comfort when away from home.

Create a relaxing retreat by swapping your existing shower head for a handheld, adjustable-height shower head.  This will simplify bathing for young children and older guests.

Finally, add a bedside table.  Select a nightstand with features like a built-in charging station so guests can power up their cell phones and other personal electronics.

With these simple low budget updates to your home your holiday season will be lovely and bright.
